Vicki Speed: How important is interoperability to your clients?
Paul McKeon: Sharing data among core management systems is one of the greatest challenges a company faces. It’s up to us- the software development community- to use the industry’s tools to create these enterprise class platforms to seamlessly share data as needed between, for instance, estimating and accounting. Today’s Microsoft .NET and SQL Server enterprise technology make it possible to create this ideal environment.
VS: Do you provide interoperable capabilities?
PM: Yes, because we built our core system on these Microsoft standards. With these protocols, BID2WIN provides dynamic integration with enterprise resource planning (ERP) through web services. Web services is the engine that creates the opportunity for this interoperable environment. With it, our clients make changes to materials in their ERP system and those changes are instantly reflected in their BID2WIN cost estimating solution. Since the web services technology protocol is a Microsoft standard, anyone that has an accounting management solution built to this standard can dynamically link with BID2WIN.
VS: Beyond interoperability, what other development directions are you moving?
PM: As data becomes more mobile, data security becomes a greater concern. In response, we introduced Estimate Security, a new option in BID2WIN that allows executives or project managers to not only secure estimating data to specific users, but also track that data’s use when it’s mobile. We will continue to enhance features that provide this granular level of data protection.
